Shares may open higher on muhurat session

The BSE and NSE will conduct a special 'muhurat' trading session today, 27 October 2019, from 6.15 pm to 7.15 pm to mark the beginning of the Hindu calendar year (Vikram Samvat 2076).

Shares are seen opening higher tracking positive close in the US stock market on Friday, 25 October 2019.

In the US, investors cheered strong quarterly earnings from Intel along with apparent progress on the US-China trade front. On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 152.23 points higher, or 0.6% at 26,958.06. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.7% to 8,243.12.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump plans to make a major statement at the White House at 9 am EST (6:30 pm IST) on Sunday, 27 October 2019. Trump tweeted that Something very big has just happened! but did not follow up with further details.

Closer home, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 435.42 crore on Friday, 25 October 2019, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth a net Rs 440.16 crore Friday, 25 October 2019, as per provisional data.

The Sensex inched higher while the Nifty ended almost flat after a volatile session on Friday, 25 October 2019. The barometer index, the BSE Sensex, rose 37.67 points or 0.10% to 39,058.06. The Nifty 50 index rose 1.30 points or 0.01% to 11,583.90.
